Sinn Féin urge people to attend Belfast Gaza rally

9 January, 2009 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

Sinn Fein MLA Carál Ní Chuilín has called on all those who wish to see an end to the slaughter in Gaza to attend tomorrows rally in Belfast City Centre. The rally's theme will be "Stop the Slaughter- Ceasefire Now! - End the Siege and Occupation". It will leave the Arts College tomorrow, Saturday 10th January, at 12.30pm to travel to the City Hall.

Speaking today Ms Ní Chuilín said:

"The ongoing situation in Gaza is one of grave concern as we see the death toll rise on a daily basis. Many of the dead are innocent civilians, with many women and children amongst the casualties.

"This is clearly a humanitarian crisis. The latest reports indicate that the UN aid workers have had to suspend their activities to protect their staff, several children have been found in a house next to the bodies of their mothers, while Israeli forces have bombed a house where they had previously told over 100 Palestinian civilians to assemble. This is staggering news.

"Sinn Féin is calling for an immediate end to attacks on all civilians; we are calling for a ceasefire and an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces. It is also essential that urgent aid to be allowed into Gaza with unimpeded access throughout the Gaza Strip.

"We would urge everybody to attend and add our voices to the international outcry over the ongoing situation in Gaza." CRIOCH
