O Dowd comments ahead of Robert Hamill Inquiry

12 January, 2009 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd speaking on the eve of the long awaited start to the Robert Hamill inquiry has said the Hamill family deserve to know the truth of what happened on the streets of Portadown the night Robert was kicked to death.

Speaking today Mr O'Dowd said:

"Even now with the Inquiry starting an important line of Inquiry into the States handling of the murder investigation and prosecutions has been closed down by the British Government with the refusal of the British Secretary of State Shaun Woodward to extend the remit of the enquiry to allow examination of the DPP and their handling of the initial reports into the killing of Robert Hamill.

Concluding Mr O' Dowd said,

"Those who rush to the media to complain about the costs of such Inquires should direct their attention to those who covered up the circumstances of such killings and who still place obstacles in the way of such inquires." CRÍOCH
