Low and middle income earners must be exempt from pay cuts – Morgan

12 January, 2009

Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has said low and middle income earners must be exempt from any pay cuts negotiated in the review of the pay deal. Speaking today Deputy Morgan said low income earners are in need of further supports and cannot be expected to foot the bill for the Government's economic incompetence.

Deputy Morgan said, "Sinn Féin will not support any renewed pay deal that includes pay cuts for low and middle income earners.

"In the current economic climate and the Government's insistence on cutting public services it is further supports that are required for low and middle income earners and pay cuts should not even be contemplated.

"Low and middle income earners cannot be expected to foot the bill for the Government's economic incompetence." ENDS
