Mid Ulster Hospital needs to be maintained

13 January, 2009 - by Ian Milne

Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MLA Francie Molloy has called on the Northern Health Trust halt the ongoing attempts to downgrade the Mid Ulster Hospital and instead to maintain and improve the medical facilities.

Mr Molloy said:

"The Trust is going out for further consultation on its Health Care facilities across the Northern Trust area including hospital provision and nursing and children centres and it is important that the public use this opportunity to make there voices heard.

"It is also important that the Trust demonstrate that they are actually listening to the public. Over the last number of years many people and political representatives have made it clear that they want Mid Ulster to have proper medical facilities to cater for their needs locally but the Trust appear to have ignored this.

"The Mid Ulster needs a fully functioning safe Accident and Emergency service, medical beds and a maternity unit. What is being proposed falls a long way short of that.

"I would urge people to make written submissions to the consultation and/or to attend the public meeting being held by the Trust on Tuesday 10th February at 7pm in the Cookstown Adult Centre." ENDS
