Right move - wrong bank - Morgan

15 January, 2009

Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has described the decision of the Government to nationalise Anglo Irish Bank as the right move but the wrong bank. Deputy Morgan said there are too many don't knows in relation to Anglo Irish Bank.

Speaking this evening he said, "Sinn Féin would support the establishment of a state bank and would see it in the context of a critical piece of infrastructure which could be directed to support small and medium sized enterprises.

"However there are too many don't knows in respect of Anglo Irish Bank. For example, we don't know the condition of their loan book and we don't know what changes will be made at board level or at senior management level.

"We would support the recall of the Dáil at the earliest opportunity to debate these matters. And the sooner that could happen the better." ENDS
