Ferris calls for processing workers to be compensated
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Agriculture, Martin Ferris TD has reiterated his call for all workers who suffered a loss of earnings during the recent pork crisis to be compensated out of the state funding made available. The Kerry North TD questioned Minister Brendan Smith on this and other aspects of the fall out from the crisis at this afternoons Oireachtas Agriculture Committee meeting.
Deputy Ferris said: "It is important that those workers who were laid off by the pork processing factories during the dioxin scare are fully compensated for loss of earnings. Generous funding has been made available to the processors and farmers affected and natural justice would dictate that the same applies to workers who felt the loss in the run up to Christmas. And more particularly at a time when there are people calling for their wages to be cut." ENDS
