Government must stop receiver from closing factory -- Sinn Féin
Waterford Sinn Féin Councillor Joe Kelly, who is currently occupying the visitors' gallery at Waterford Crystal with approximately 100 other workers, has called on the Government to intervene to stop the receiver from closing the company. Councillor Kelly said just yesterday the receiver announced that he would not close the company while there are interested investors but today he has gone back on his word.
He said, "Approximately 100 workers are currently occupying Waterford Crystal factory and visitors' centre in protest at an announcement from the official receiver, received in the past hour, that he is to close the company. This announcement is a u-turn on his commitment yesterday that he would not do anything with the company while there are interested investors.
"Just yesterday the receiver met with investors in Dublin who expressed an interest in investing in the company. This avenue and any other possible avenue must be explored before any decision on closing the company can be made.
"We are calling on the Government to intervene in this dispute and stop the receiver from closing the company while there are interested investors." ENDS
