Dell taskforce must deliver for workers
Sinn Féin Enterprise, Trade and Employment Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has this evening criticised the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan for her delay in establishing the Dell taskforce.
Deputy Morgan said:
“Tánaiste and Enterprise, Trade & Employment Minister Mary Coughlan has known for a number of months now that job losses at Dell were imminent. But instead of establishing a task force in advance of Dell’s announcement to rapidly respond to the closure of Dell in Limerick, the government has once again responded at a snail like pace.
“Now that the taskforce has been finally set up it is incumbent upon the Tanaiste to ensure trade unions and local communities are represented on its panel. It is vital that this taskforce not become simply another talking shop and that it produces realistic proposals within weeks that deliver for those workers who have lost their jobs.
“With over 14,000 people now unemployed in Limerick the government can no longer afford to sit on its hands when it comes to job retention and creation.” ENDS
