Have your say on A5 Dual Carriageway Route-Doherty

3 February, 2009

West Tyrone Sinn Fein MP MLA Pat Doherty has called on the public to have their say about the preferred route of the A5 dual carriageway by attending any one of a number of consultation meetings being organised by DRD Roads Service at local venues throughout the month of February.

He said,

"After consultation Roads Service identified the preferred corridor for the A5 dual carriageway late last year. Now Roads Service is consulting on the specific route options within the preferred corridor and as part of this consultation officials have organised the following meetings:

17th February 2009 - Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh
18th February 2009 - Smyth Memorial Hall, Ballygawley
24th February 2009 - Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane
25th February 2009 - Everglades Hotel, Derry

"These consultation meetings will be open to the public from 12 midday until
9pm at each venue and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and have your say about the proposed routes.

"It is envisaged that a final decision about what route the A5 dual carriageway will take will be make in June of this year and this, the biggest roads infrastructural investment project ever west of the Bann, will then enter the next phase with the publication of draft statutory orders associated with the Environmental Statement, Direction Order and Vesting Order, in 2010."
