CAITRÍONA RUANE APPROVES SCHOOLS' AMALGAMATION
The Minister of Education, Caitríona Ruane, has approved the amalgamation of St MacNissi’s College, Garron Tower; St Aloysius’ High, Cushendall and St Comgall’s College, Larne.
The Minister said: “I have considered very carefully all aspects of the development proposal and I have decided that amalgamation of the three schools is in the best interests of the children.
“In examining the proposal for an amalgamated school, several potential site options have been identified and this work has still to be concluded. My department will continue to liaise with the trustees and the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools on the site issues.
"In any case, in view of the intention to amalgamate in September and the current capacity at Garron Tower, the amalgamated school will operate on a split-site basis between Larne and Garron Tower. I would wish to see it build on the strong collaboration work which has already been happening with other schools in the Larne area.
"In a new school environment all pupils will have access to a broad and balanced curriculum and enhanced educational and social learning experiences. I wish all those involved with delivering education to the children in the area every success.”
