Morgan calls for clarification on FÁS staff
Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has called on the Tánaiste to clarify rumours that the State training company FÁS is to lay off its contracted training staff from tomorrow. Deputy Morgan was speaking this evening after becoming aware of a number of part time trainers who have had their hours cancelled as part of a directive cancelling all external trainers’ contracts from tomorrow. Deputy Morgan described the news as astonishing.
He said, "The Government needs to come out and clarify this immediately. Just what exactly are they at? At a time when unemployment is at a record levels and there is an urgent need for training and upskilling the Government is letting go the very people who providing that training and upskilling. It’s just astonishing.
"Not only is the economy in crisis but it would seem that this Government is in crisis. They are all over the place on the economy. How can Government Ministers on the one hand stand up in the Dáil and tell us that training will be provided for the unemployed while on the other they are letting trainers go. It begs believe.
"The Tánaiste must come out and clarify this issue without delay. I truly hope that this is some sort of mistake that can quickly be rectified." ENDS
