Bomb scare on Stewartstown Road adds more disruption to West Belfast communities
Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast, Jennifer McCann, has slammed those behind a bomb scare on the Stewartstown Road stating they have caused significant disruption to local communities.
Speaking today Ms McCann said:
“Those behind the bomb scare on the Stewartstown Road can be happy in knowing that they have caused significant disruption to communities they purport to represent.
“The Stewartstown Road was closed and many people using this very busy route were delayed for a long time getting to work, dropping school children off and going about their daily business. Is this the way to push for a united Ireland?
“There were also concerns surrounding some of the PSNI members and their refusal to engage with local community and political representatives. On top of this a young man was arrested for a stone throwing incident, and while we do not in any way endorse this activity, this was an over reaction and could have inflamed the situation.
“Sinn Féin have already made a complaint to the area commander and will be pursuing this further. With this much disruption local people are entitled to be informed of the ongoing situation and the PSNI need to act in an appropriate manner with respect for the communities that are being affected by such bomb scares”
