Family Funday planned for Visteon workers, Sinn Féin continues to lobby on behalf of workforce
West Belfast Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann has reaffirmed Sinn Fein’s and the local community’s support for the workers who are currently occupying the Visteon plant in West Belfast. Ms McCann said: ‘’Sinn Fein has been involved in further meetings in the last two days with the objective of getting Ford to honour their moral and ethical obligations to the Visteon workforce in Belfast. ‘’Ford will not be allowed to escape it’s responsibilities for the plight of the Belfast workforce. ‘’Union leaders met with Ford yesterday in London and the Sinn Fein President and West Belfast MP Gerry Adams expects to speak to Ford again on Sunday. ‘’There are many greater questions now emerging about Visteon’s business practices and financial management which we will continue to probe. ‘’Sinn Fein MLA’s and councillors have been at the plant on a daily and nightly basis over the past few days to give support to the workforce. ‘’Additional support, including the provision of food, has been given by West Belfast Sinn Fein and by many local community and business people. ‘’As part of that support, Feile an Phobail, the West Belfast festival group, will come together with community organisations and the workforce, to hold a family funday tomorrow, Sunday 5 April, at 2pm at the Visteon plant. ‘’There will be bouncy castles, music and face painting among other activities. ‘’This event will allow the workforce to spend some time with their families in a fun atmosphere. ‘’Sinn Fein will continue to stand by the Visteon workforce in their battle for their rights and entitlements.’’ ENDS. NOTES FOR EDITORS The media are invited to attend the Family Funday at the Visteon factory tomorrow, Sunday 5 April, at 2pm. Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP will be available to speak to the media at 2.15pm at the Visteon plant.
