Morgan calls for charges against retired AIB Bankers

1 May, 2009

Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Arthur Morgan TD has called on the Government to prepare a legal case against the three AIB bank executives who retired in controversy this week. Deputy Morgan said while he is delighted that they have left the bank it is sickening that they were allowed to retire rather than being fired.

Deputy Morgan said, "I am Delighted that these individuals have left A.I.B. but sickened that they were allowed retire rather than being sacked.

"I’m calling on the Government through the attorney general to prepare a case against these three men so that they may be hauled before the courts on charges of negligence through reckless lending, which contributed to our economy being crippled.

"The public outrage will only be cemented if the practice of giving these bankers golden handshakes is to continue while ordinary working families are on the breadline. Most of these bank executives should be going to a jail cell not a sunny retirement villa." ENDS
