Dungiven by-pass a positive move for the north west – Sinn Féin

6 May, 2009 - by Cathal Ó hOisín

Sinn Féin’s East Derry MLA Francie Brolly has welcomed the statement by the Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, announcing the preferred route for the proposed 30 kilometre Derry to Dungiven dual carriageway, including a dual carriageway bypass of Dungiven.   Speaking today Mr Brolly said,   “Firstly I want to commend the Minister for his tireless work on this issue, the need for a by-bass in this area has been campaigned on for a long time and it will be VERY MUCH welcomed in the town of Dungiven.   The news that the by-pass will eventually divert 10,000 cars out of the town everyday will have a marked impact on people’s day to day lives, not least their health, which has been adversely effected as a result of such a high volume of vehicles passing through Dungiven.   As well as all of this the process will further connectivity throughout the north west for the betterment of citizens, particularly in Derry and Donegal.” CRÍOCH
