Adams raises Visteon workers’ pension rights with British Prime Minister

12 May, 2009 - by Pat Sheehan

West Belfast MP Gerry Adams has raised Visteon workers’ pension rights with the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Mr Adams said he and his party had been directly involved in talks around the future of the west Belfast site at various points over recent years and said the full circumstances of the closure must be probed.

“The Visteon workers were guaranteed ‘lifetime protection’ in relation to their terms and conditions, including pension schemes into which they paid.”

“Those rights and entitlements have not been honoured. We have already asked the Pensions Regulator to initiate a full, independent investigation into this matter.”

The Sinn Féin President asked the British Prime Minister to do all he could to ensure that the full rights and entitlements of the Visteon workers are upheld."
