Mitchel McLaughlin MLA condemns burglary of dead man's house

19 May, 2009

Sinn Féin's Mitchel McLaughlin MLA (South Antrim) has described the burglary of the home of a young man in Toome who died in tragic circumstances at the weekend as totally abhorrent.   Mr. McLaughlin said:   "When contacted today and informed of this burglary I was stunned into disbelief that anyone could stoop so low as to burgle the home of a man who died only 48 hours ago in tragic circumstances.   "This has got to be one of the most reprehensible actions that I have come across in decades of public life. Obviously my prayers and thoughts are with the family of the deceased young man who now, not only has to deal with their tragic grief but to suffer the indignity of some low-life desecrating the home of their loved one.   "I would call on anyone who has any indication of who was responsible for this despicable act to do the decent thing and bring that information to the police immediately. Those responsible for this burglary must be caught and made amenable to the Courts.   CRÍOCH
