McGuinness welcomes UU Magee Campus development
Sinn Féin deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MP, MLA gave the opening address at today's VIP briefing event by the University of Ulster to announce proposals to develop its Magee campus.
Speaking at the event the deputy First Minister said:
"At a time when so much news, especially on the economic front, is almost invariably bad, it is a pleasure to stand here this morning to take part in an event which looks forward to our future in such a positive manner."
"Notwithstanding the economic downturn I still believe that economic growth and success will rely on a highly skilled and educated workforce. We need ambition and innovation and the Universities are at the cutting edge of this."
Mr McGuinness said: "Our young people are the most precious resource that we have and in the midst of the uncertain times in which we find ourselves, today's announcement is a massive vote of confidence in their future. As we compete with regions around the world it will be the skills and enthusiasm of those young people which will be our greatest asset. This proposal could play a major part in preparing those young people for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead." ENDS
