de Brún challenges Wilson on Climate Change comments

9 February, 2009

Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún has called on Executive Environment Minister, Sammy Wilson to act responsibly and reassess his position on not running energy efficiency adverts. She has also called on him to follow the example of Irish government Minister Eamon Ryan and introduce with his fellow Executive Ministers incentive programmes that will encourage individual efforts to tackle climate change which is a threat to the world environment.

Ms de Brún said:

"Last week I participated in the vote and debate around the concluding report of the European Parliament's Climate Change Committee of which I am a member. The report has far-reaching recommendations on steps that need to be taken in the time ahead.

"While welcoming the report which maps out a plan for future EU climate actions, I challenge Sammy Wilson to demonstrate that he is up to the challenge set by the EU regarding climate change or if through his closed minded attitude he will allow the north's small and medium enterprises as well as our environment to suffer because of his lack of vision."
