Minister announces preferred corridor for A2 Ballykelly bypass
Sinn Féin Roads Minister Conor Murphy today announced the preferred corridor for the proposed bypass of the village of Ballykelly to the west of Limavady in the north west.
The Minister said:
"I am pleased to report that the first key milestone, which is the production of a preliminary options report, including recommendations for a preferred corridor to the south of the village, has been met.
"This project will provide significant benefits in terms of improving safety and journey time reliability on the A2 between Derry and Coleraine, and provide a significant environmental improvement to the village of Ballykelly."
This project is part of an overall strategy to improve the network of Key Transport Corridors across the north.
"Completion of this report leads on to the next stage of the project which is the development of a preferred route within the chosen corridor," added the Minister.
Note to Editors
All landowners in the A2 Ballykelly study area will receive direct notification of the preferred corridor location. The Roads Service website www.roadsni.gov.uk will contain an interactive map of the preferred corridor and other information.
It is proposed to hold a further public exhibition in Spring 2009 when route options within the preferred southern corridor will be presented.
