Sinn Féin hosts Brook Centres 16th Birthday at Stormont

Sinn Féin MLA and member of the Health Committee, Sue Ramsey, has hosted the 16th birthday of the local Brook Advisory Centres at Stormont today.

Speaking after the event Ms Ramsey said:

"It is 16 years today since the Brook advisory clinic first opened its doors in the north of Ireland and gave access for young people to first hand, quality advice on family planning and sexual health. Despite criticism from some quarters the service has gone from strength to strength.

"The centres have been an outlet that young people, but in particular those under 16 years of age, where they can access quality advice from professionals with an outstanding degree of confidentiality.

"Today's focus was on sexual health and advice for our young people and the implications that the Sexual Offences Order 2008 for young people. These are key issues as the north has some of the highest levels of underage pregnancy along with rising instances of STDs.

"I'm glad that I could host this event and will continue to support the Brook Advisory centres and the sterling work they are doing."
