Buaileann Sinn Féin le Stádas

13 February, 2004

Bhuail ceannaire Shinn Féin sa Dáil Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin TD agus urlabhrai Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD le ionadaithe an fheachtais Stadas i dTeach Laighean inniú. Ag athdhearbhú tacaiocht Shinn Féin don bhfeachtas dúirt An Teachta Ó Snodaigh:

"Dúirt an tAire Ó Cuiv le feachtas Stadas go bhfuil coiste bunaithe ag an Rialtas anois chun ceist stadais na Gaeilge san Aontas Eorpach a phlé. Ni chóir don Rialtas an coiste a usáid mar cúis moille. A mhalairt ar fad - ba chóir don Rialtas aontú anois i bprionsabal le stádas oifigiúil oibre don Ghaeilge a fháil agus an próiséas a chur i bhfeidhm chun go mbeidh an Ghaeilge ar chomhcéim leis na teangacha eile atá ag teacht isteach san Aontas Eorpach Lá Bealtaine. Beidh an t-éileamh sin á chur go leanúnach againn chun an Rialtas." DEIREADH

Sinn Féin members meet members of Stádas campaign

Sinn Féin's Dáil leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin TD and Spokesperson on Cultúir and Gaeltacht Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD today met members of the Stádas campaign in Leinster House. Re-affirming Sinn Féin's support for the campaign to acquire working status for the Irish language in the EU, Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

"Minister Ó Cuiv told the Stádas campaign that there is a committee formed by the Government now to discuss the issue of the status of Irish in the EU. The Government shouldn't use the committee as a reason for delaying. Quite the contrary - the Government should agree now in principle to seek official working status for Irish and to put the process in place so that Irish is on equal footing with the other languages coming into the EU on May Day. We will continue to put this demand to the Government. ENDS
