East border region stands strong in economic downturn – Murphy

26 February, 2009

Following today's announcement that the Newry branch of Teleperformance is to create 610 new jobs, Sinn Féin MP and MLA for Newry/ Armagh Conor Murphy has said that this is yet another boost for the region.

Speaking at the event Mr Murphy said,

"At a time when most areas are suffering from huge job losses, this area has shown that it is still an attractive region for investment.

"Further to the 610 jobs announced today, we have also welcomed First Derivatives plc and gaming manufacturer Gem create large jobs boosts for Newry in recent weeks."

"Friday (26th) will also see the launch of the Newry-Dundalk Twin City Report which shows clearly that there is potential for joint action by cross across the border to expand local economies and deliver sustainable development."

"I applaud the achievements of all those involved in bringing this about as this is indeed great news for Newry/Armagh, Louth and Monaghan as a whole." Críoch
