Ó Caoláin lends support to Dublin Focus on Youth Campaign
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Children Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has today expressed his support for the campaign against cuts to vital youth services in Dublin city.
Speaking after a demonstration by the Dublin Focus on Youth coalition at the gates to Leinster House, the Cavan-Monaghan TD said:
“The government’s plans to cut funding by up to 8% for a number of youth projects in Dublin city are yet another example of its penny-wise, pound-foolish approach to public spending. These services play a vital role in creating sustainable communities and keeping young people away from drugs, anti-social and criminal behaviour. The Dublin communities of the future will pay heavily for the meagre amounts saved today.
“The cuts also illustrate this government’s shameful policy of forcing those most in need to carry the burden of an economic crisis not of their making.
“I commend the organisations involved in the Dublin Focus on Youth Campaign and pledge Sinn Féin’s continuing support for a reversal of the government’s savage and short-sighted cuts to youth services in Dublin city.” ENDS
