Brolly urges mass support for McDaid vigil
Sinn Féin East Derry MLA Francie Brolly has encouraged people from across across the north, and from all sections of the community to support a solidarity vigil for the family of Kevin McDaid organised for Sunday the 31st of May in Somerset Drive at 9pm.
Speaking ahead of the vigil Mr Brolly said:
“I would people to come out and stand with the family of Kevin McDaid to show solidarity. The McDaid family have suffered a terrible loss. They have lost a husband and a father, Evelyn, Kevin’s wife, was badly beaten and Ryan their son has been threatened by Loyalist paramilitaries.
“Mr McDaid was killed because he was a Catholic. We need to challenge those within society who make excuses or try and explain the hatred that led to this tragic death.
“We must unite in a forthright gesture and say very clearly that enough is enough. Sectarianism has no place in our society. That includes community and voluntary groups, churches, trade unions, and any other groups or individual who wish to come along.
“There is an onus on all of us to stand side by side in revulsion at this killing. Political representatives now need to provide the leadership to their communities that is require.” ENDS
