McGrattan elected to represent Cabra/Glasnevin

7 June, 2009

Speaking after being elected to Dublin City Council in the Cabra/Glasnevin ward this evening Sinn Féin’s Séamus McGrattan said there is now an opportunity for an alliance of left wing parties and progressive independents on Dublin City Council. He also said the Fianna Fáil/Green Party coalition does not have the moral authority to Govern after this election and a General Election should be called.

He said, “I’m delighted to have been elected to the Council to continue representing the people of Cabra/Glasnevin and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me and everybody who helped out in the campaign.

“The results of this election now make it possible to form an alliance of left wing parties and progressive independents on Dublin City Council to administer local authority power in a fair and democratic manner, to change the political landscape and start delivering for communities. That has never happened before. Sinn Féin stands ready and available to discuss this possibility with other parties.

“This election and the collapse in support for the Government parties shows that the Fianna Fáil/Green Party Government does not have the moral authority to Govern and a General Election should be called.” ENDS
