Kelly slams Currie Primary robbery and vandalism

15 June, 2009 - by Gerry Kelly

Sinn Féin MLA for North Belfast Gerry Kelly has slammed those responsible for the vandalism and robbery at Currie Primary School on the Limestone Road in North Belfast.

Speaking today Mr Kelly said:

“This act of vandalism on Currie Primary School comes only days after the attempted burning of Saint Patrick's College Bearnageeha.  Unfortunately the school has had to be closed for repairs which will cause disruption to the pupils and their families, all down to some people who consider schools to be an easy target.

“Schools are centres of our communities and provide not just education for our children but also services for families, after schools projects, and outreach to the wider community. To target, destroy and rob schools is therefore an attack on the entire community.

“Anyone with information on this robbery and vandalism should contact the PSNI. Schools are a focal point for the community and to have two attacked in North Belfast in the space of a week is completely unacceptable. ”
