Anger at PSNI behaviour in Coalisland Raid

19 June, 2009 - by Ian Milne

Sinn Féin Mid Ulster MLA has described as ‘totally unacceptable’ the behaviour of PSNI officers involved in a house raid in Coalisland this morning.

Mr Molloy was speaking after the PSNI raided the home of a local man in Coalisland for over 2 hours despite being told that it was not the address originally identified by them.

The incident has been referred to the Police Ombudsman.

Mr Molloy said:

“The behaviour of the PSNI towards this man is totally unacceptable. This approach to policing falls well short of the standards that are required and certainly undermines progress in building community confidence in policing.

“The family have expressed serious concerns over the whole legality of the search and the incident has now been referred to the Police Ombudsman.

“There is no place in the PSNI for this type of behaviour and those officers involved must be dealt with swiftly. Sinn Féin will support this family and will ensure that those responsible are held fully to account.” ENDS
