Attack on City Church a new low – Maskey

23 June, 2009 - by Alex Maskey

Sinn Féin south Belfast MLA Alex Maskey has expressed his deep sadness and anger at the attack on the City Church in Belfast last night.

Speaking after he visited the Church this morning Mr Maskey said;

“This attack is a new low for those racist criminals engaged in a campaign of intimidation against ethnic communities here in the south of the city.

After hundreds of Romanian people fled their homes last week, City Church provided them with shelter, sanctuary and most importantly hope; it also showed very clearly to the world that the people of Belfast are not racist, that they are not addicted to hatred but are quick to come to the aid and support of their neighbours.

We must see effective leadership from all within the community, statutory and political leaders must collectively work to face down the any form of hatred,wherever it rears its ugly head.

Anyone with any information regarding this attack should bring it forward to the PSNI.” CRÍOCH
