McGimpsey needs to deliver for Omagh instead of decanting nursing staff.
Sinn Féin MLA and deputy chair of the health committee, Michelle O’Neill has stated that the Health Minister must provide services that he promised for Omagh instead of decanting our nursing staff to other health centres on a daily basis.
Speaking today Ms O’Neill said:
“The spending of over £14,000 on taxi fares for three months will raise concerns amongst the public but especially in the Omagh area. The Western Health Trust stated that the decanting of nursing staff was a necessary action in the short term but quite obviously this is a running issue.
“Michael McGimpsey has promised services for Omagh and if these were forthcoming we would not have to relocate all our nursing staff to different hospitals on a daily basis running up costs that could be used for other vital parts of our health system.
“This is a failure of both the Trust and the Health Minister to come forward with an adequate strategy and time frame for the delivery of the services that will retain the nursing jobs and services in the Omagh area. While this continues I expect revelations such as the price of taxis for three months will continue. “
