Adams protests to Israeli Ambassador over Corrigan

6 July, 2009 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams this afternoon spoke with the Israeli Ambassador in Dublin to protest at the arrest of Mairead Corrigan and Derek Graham and others held by Israeli forces after they boarded the ‘Spirit of Humanity’ boat carrying aid to the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Adams said:

“The Spirit of Humanity was bringing humanitarian aide to the Gaza Strip, including much needed medical supplies.

The arrest of the peace activists, including Mairead Corrigan, Derek Graham and former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and others, is unacceptable.

There can be no justification for the actions of the Israeli authorities in respect of the peace activists, and the siege of Gaza by Israel which is illegal, immoral and is imposing grevious hardship on one and a half million people, should be lifted immediately.
