Gildernew seeks urgent Health meeting over proposed ambulance cuts

7 July, 2009

Sinn Féin Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Michelle Gildernew MP MLA is seeking an urgent meeting with the Health Minister to discuss the cuts to ambulance provision proposed by the Ambulance Service and the impact on rural areas.

Ms Gildernew said:

“It is my responsibility to be a champion for our rural communities. In that capacity I am seeking an urgent meeting with the Health Minister to discuss concerns about erosion of ambulance services from rural areas.

“I have looked carefully at the proposals and have very real concerns about the potential impact that they could have in rural areas.

“I want to ensure that people in rural areas will be properly served by the health service.

“These are proposals from the Ambulance Service, and the Health Minister Michael McGimpsey will now have to look at them but I am seeking an urgent meeting with the him to further explore these proposals and to ensure that any proposed changes would not have a negative impact on our rural areas.” ENDS
