Ó Donnghaile condemns paint attack on St Matthews Chapel

12 July, 2009

Sinn Féin Representative Niall Ó Donnghaile has blasted those responsible for an overnight paint attack on Saint Matthews Chapel in the Short Strand.

Speaking after visiting the Church this morning Mr Ó Donnghaile said;

“I have seen the damage caused to the chapel this morning and I have no doubt it will cause deep anguish and hurt to those parishioners attending Mass later on this morning.

This attack flies in the face of the good work taking place in this part of the city, to ensure a calm and peaceful summer.

Those who carried out this attack also tried to damage the memorial cross, dedicated to all those parishioners killed during the conflict, which is located in the grounds of Saint Matthews.

The PSNI must now act to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and held accountable for this mindless attack.” CRÍOCH
