CCTV being checked to determine cause of bloodstains in Newry

24 July, 2009

Sinn Féin deputy mayor of Newry and Mourne Charlie Casey has appealed to anyone who was at Sugar Island/ Hill Street area of Newry last night to come forward.

The Newry councillor made the call as large amounts of blood was found in the area.

Cllr Casey said,

“The cause of the bloodstains on the ground is still unclear although I understand that the PSNI are checking CCTV in the area to determine what has happened.

“I have also been informed that no one has checked into Daisy Hill hospital with injuries which could have caused such bloodloss.

“With the recent murder of a young man in the town the community has been shocked by street violence. I can only hope that something similar has not happened last night.”
