Call on Parades Commission to review Rasharkin decision
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has called on the Parades Commission to review their decision to allow the Ballymaconnolly parade to go ahead without restrictions.
Mr McKay said:
“Over a hundred residents attended the public meeting with the Parades Commission last night and the Chair and other Commission members were left in no doubt as to how residents here feel about this parade.
“The Residents Association is to now request a review of this decision and I would urge the Commission to act on this request. This parade results in intimidation, violence and sectarian attacks as we have seen in recent years and residents here are fed up with the Parades Commission allowing this parade to go ahead and allowing residents to be abused and intimidated.
“The damage this parade does to community relations here is immense and it is the opinion of local people that this parade is the main reason that we have seen such a deterioration in relations in the village. The Commission have a responsibility to ensure that residents here live free from sectarian harassment and its about time that they started to address that problem.” ENDS
