Cloud of Loyalist intimidation hanging over Coleraine

1 September, 2009 - by Cathal Ó hOisín

Sinn Fein East Derry MLA Francie Brolly speaking after news that more than 20 people are living with Loyalist death threats in relation to those charged with the brutal sectarian killing of Coleraine community worker Kevin McDaid has said that people in the town need to be able to live free from the fear of sectarian violence and threat.

Mr Brolly said:

“It is totally unacceptable that people in Coleraine are living under the cloud of these Loyalist threats. There is an ongoing campaign of intimidation by loyalists in the town

“There is a clear attempt to pervert the course of justice by making people too afraid to testify against these Loyalist criminals and gangsters.

“The PSNI and legal system need to act to make sure that those responsible for the brutal attack on Kevin McDaid and Damien Fleming are brought before the courts and that justice is served.

“People in Coleraine should be allowed to get on with their lives and should be able to live free from the fear of sectarian violence and threat.” ENDS
