Sinn Féin welcome new Derry rail timetable
Sinn Féin MLA for Foyle and member of the Regional Development committee in the Assembly Raymond McCartney has welcomed the intervention by Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy into the scheduling of services on the Derry rail line.
Speaking today Mr McCartney said:
“For years, under direct rule, there has been massive under investment into the linkage of the North West with Belfast to the detriment of the economy, employment and service provision for the North West.
“The simple fact that there was no train service coming from Belfast into Derry before a working day began highlights this. The intervention by the Regional Development Minister has seen this redressed and we now have, for the first time ever and train arriving in Derry from Belfast for 9 o’clock alongside shorter travel times.
“This intervention will break down further the isolation in economic and job creation terms of the north west and especially Derry city.”
