Francie Molloy MLA appointed to European Committee of the Regions
Sinn Féin MLA for Mid Ulster, Francie Molloy, has stated that he is looking forward to playing a full and active role in the European body, the Committee of the Regions, to which he was appointed today in the Assembly.
Recognising the role of a joint approach between the Assembly and European institutions Mr Molloy said:
“The Committee of the Regions provides an essential link with the EU giving those who are elected locally a voice in EU policies and legislation.
“There is a clear willingness in Europe to support economic development in the North and indeed right across Ireland and also to support our transition away from conflict. We need to tap into this in the best possible manner.
“Certainly we can see room for assistance in fields such as the economy, farming, the environment and climate change, transport and lifelong learning.
“Our voices being heard through both our MEP’s and our local elected representatives in the Assembly will ensure maximum effectiveness in both designing policies that affect us all and receiving the utmost in investment and grant aid from Europe."
