Attitudes to domestic violence must change – Ruane
Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane has said that attitudes to domestic violence must change as early as possible in life.
The Minister was speaking following a meeting held with Women’s Aid. The Minister said: “For too long domestic violence was not spoken about openly. That attitude is changing and it is important that our children and young people become aware as early as possible in their lives, that violence against women and children is totally unacceptable.
“Women’s Aid has been working in some of our schools to promote healthy relationships and encourage safe behaviours. This work with our children is very valuable and I wanted to explore with Women’s Aid the potential to match funding already given by the DHSSPS.
“It is important for our children and young people to build relationships that are strong and based on respect for each other.”
