Bomb scare halts DPP meeting in Mosside, Co Antrim

30 September, 2009

Moyle DPP Chair, Oliver McMullan, received news of a bomb alert at Mosside Community Hall, whilst travelling to a DPP meeting which was scheduled for 7.00pm, this evening.

The Sinn Féin councillor said;

“I received a telephone call from the PSNI informing me that a recognised codeword was given to the Samaritans by a caller claiming that a bomb had been left at Mosside Community Hall, ahead of a public DPP meeting, this evening. The codeword is understood to have been used by a loyalist paramilitary group in the past. The police have advised that a suspect device is being examined at the rear of the hall and that the area has been cordoned off.

“I am very disappointed as I have been looking forward to giving the people of Mosside the opportunity to engage with the DPP at a public meeting, for the first time. This would have allowed the community to feed their concerns and opinions into the Area Policing Plan, as other local communities have done before.

“We will not be deterred by the actions of those who have no support or mandate and will rearrange the meeting at the earliest opportunity.” ENDS.
