No work without family consultation at Glasnevin plots – McDonald

6 October, 2009

Sinn Féin Vice President Mary Lou McDonald has welcomed the passing of a Sinn Féin emergency motion by Dublin City Council last night which called for a halt to work on the Old and New Angels plots at Glasnevin Cemetery.

Ms. McDonald said there is widespread anger among parents of children buried at these plots as plans were made without their consultation.

Speaking today Ms. McDonald said, “No work should take place at these plots without full and proper consultation with the families of those buried there.

“I welcome the support of Dublin City Council for last night’s emergency motion which was tabled by Sinn Féin’s Larry O’Toole.

“There is now an onus on the Glasnevin Cemetery to immediately cease work at the plots and to initiate a vigorous consultation process with the family members of those buried in these plots.

“The idea of riding roughshod over the feelings of parents who have buried small children and babies in these plots is just wrong.” ENDS
