Changes are required within Invest NI – McCann

20 October, 2009 - by Jennifer McCann

Speaking ahead of today's Assembly Motion on Invest NI Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer Mc Cann has called on the Minister of Enterprise Trade & Investment to make the necessary changes within Invest NI:

"This report has clearly indicated the need to bring about a new approach to developing our economy, and has highlighted the way Invest NI are failing.

It was disappointing that the minister instead of commenting on the report decided to have a further period of consultation.

Today's debate will hopefully put a focus back on the need for change in the way Invest NI spends public money and their lack of commitment to areas of disadvantage and need when it comes to inward investment.

I would ask the minister for Enterprise Trade & Investment not to delay any longer in ensuring that Invest NI is restructured and held to account to ensure any future public spending by the organisation is distributed in an equal and fair manner." CRÍOCH
