Lagmore shooting could have killed children

Sinn Fein MLA for West Belfast Jennifer McCann has stated that those behind a shooting incident in White Rise in the Lagmore area could have killed children.

Speaking today Ms McCann said:

“This shooting was wholly indiscriminate and could have seen children as young as six killed.

“Those responsible showed no regard for whoever was in the house at the time and opened fire while four children were in the house.

“I understand that this was part of a dispute within the Travelling community. I am stating very clearly now, there are mechanisms which can be brought into play to see such disputes resolved.  I am calling on members of the travelling community involved or those who may have influence to come forward and we, as a community, can help resolve these disputes.

“Certainly no one has the right to come into this community and attempt to kill people firing shots indiscriminately at a family home. This community does not want this kind of thing happening either here, nor anywhere else for that matter, and would rather see it resolved appropriately. “
