McCartney contacts FAI President over the future of Derry City FC
Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has contacted the president of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) David Blood expressing his deep concerns after Derry City Football had its contract to participate in the League of Ireland terminated.
Raymond McCartney said
“I have contacted the president of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) David Blood to express my deep concerns at the weekend’s turn of events in relation to Derry City FC having its contract in the League of Ireland terminated.
There is also a concern in the city about the way this decision was reached. I have spoken to many people over the weekend and they are gravely concerned about the future of Derry City FC and the future of senior soccer in our city .The people of this city take great pride in their local club and the ramifications of Derry City effectively being put out of the league go far and wide beyond the football fraternity.
