Maskey welcomes move on PSNI ‘backroom’ staff
Sinn Féin Policing and Justice spokesperson Alex Maskey MLA has welcomed indications from PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott that he is seeking to take 600 PSNI members from administrative duties and replace them onto frontline community policing.
Speaking from the Assembly today Mr Maskey said;
“Matt Baggott outlined his position to the Policing Board and obviously any move to further reassurance within the broader community is welcome.
With the freeing up of these officers, they can be utilised in tackling major issues of concern such as tackling drugs, anti social behaviour, burglaries and crime on our streets.
I have no doubt that the public will be watching this process carefully and be sure that we on the Policing Board will be ensuring that this commitment is acted upon.” CRÍOCH
