Latest death shows those who support our homeless need mainstream support – Fra McCann

6 January, 2010 - by Fra McCann

Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Fra McCann has called for increased funding for those groups who support homeless people across the north.

Mr McCann was speaking after a man was found dead this morning in the Fountain Street area in Belfast.

Speaking this evening Mr McCann said;

“This latest tragedy shows us once again why we must all work to support those vulnerable citizens who find themselves without a home. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man who was found dead.

The latest freezing temperatures act as a reminder that we must do all we can to support those who are homeless but also those who work tirelessly to support them, often voluntarily.

Organisations like the Welcome Centre in my own constituency work with the homeless night after night, often without much recognition or support; today’s tragedy shows us why organisations like the social services must take stock of the difficulties facing these groups and do more to support their valuable work.” CRÍOCH
