Greater Village Community Relations Strategy launch welcomed
South Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has joined his party colleague Vincent Parker in welcoming the launch of the Greater Village Community Relations Strategy. The South Belfast MLA was speaking after both himself and Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker attended the launch of the strategy on the Donegall Road last Friday.
Alex Maskey MLA said,
"Over the past number of years, because of the actions of a very small number of people, the whole of the Greater Village area has been unfairly portrayed as racist. From my own personal experience of the people in this area, nothing could be further from the truth.
"This Community Relations Strategy is the product of the work which has been taking place between community representatives, and members of the statutory and voluntary sector, and overseen by the Community Relations Working Group, over the past year. All of those who have been involved in this project are to be commended for the excellent work that they have carried out."
Balmoral Sinn Féin representative Vincent Parker added,
"The launch of this strategy is to be welcomed and the work which will emerge out of this strategy will play an important role in helping to develop positive relationships between the traditional community in the Greater Village area, and those new members of the community, particularly the migrant community, who are living within the community."
