Government must start creating jobs – Ó Snodaigh

19 January, 2010 - by Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Sinn Féin Social and Family Affairs Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh today supported a protest at Leinster House organised by the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed.

Deputy Ó Snodaigh called on the Government to initiate a labour intensive programme of infrastructure construction to create jobs and invest in Ireland’s future.

Speaking after attending the protest Deputy Ó Snodaigh said:

“This Government is doing nothing to create jobs while at the same time it is cutting social welfare rates. This is a disgrace.

“We are currently in the grip of a crisis with water shortages in parts of the country and flooding in other parts. Our roads are crumbling beneath us while our water systems are failing. Children are being taught in sub-standard facilities.

“Yet at the same time we have nearly half a million people looking for work. The Government should initiate a labour intensive programme of infrastructure construction to create jobs, put these people to work and invest in Ireland’s future.” ENDS
