Ferris supports Green Isle workers
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Workers Rights, Martin Ferris TD, has voiced his support for workers at Green Isle Foods in Naas who have begun a hunger strike in support of their demand for three workers, who were made redundant, to be reinstated or paid their proper redundancy.
The Labour Court recommended payments of between €40,000 and €80,000 but this was rejected by the company. The court subsequently ordered that the three be reinstated.
Deputy Ferris said: “It is a sad day when workers have to embark on a hunger strike in order to ensure that a company abides by the recommendations of the Labour Court.
“Either the three men who were laid off are reinstated or else they are paid in line with the Court’s recommendation. The Green Isle workers will have the support of every worker and fair minded person in this country.” ENDS
