Concerns as former Tallaght Hospital patients struggle to get through to helpline

10 March, 2010

Dublin South West Sinn Féin Councillor Seán Crowe has expressed concern that the helpline set up for former Tallaght Hospital patients who are concerned about their health following yesterday’s revelations about unexamined x-rays.

Councillor Crowe said he has received numerous calls throughout the day from people complaining that they cannot get through to the helpline.

He said:

“Throughout the course of the day I have received several phone calls from concerned former patients at Tallaght hospital and relatives of patients.

“Despite trying all day to get through to the helpline which has been set up many have not been able to get through at all.

“This is completely unacceptable. These patients are urgently looking for assurances and they can’t even get through to the hospital.

“Clearly the helpline needs to be expanded with extra phone operators. And, judging by the volume of phone calls I have received today, it will need to be in operation for longer that the planned few days.” ENDS
